Neureichenau is a state-approved resort and a municipality (until 1951 Schimmelbach) in the Lower Bavarian district of Freyung-Grafenau.
The border tripoint of Germany, Austria and the Czech Republic is located at 48°46'18.0"N 13°50'22.0"E, near the villages of Schwarzenberg am Böhmerwald and Bayerischer Plöckenstein.
The municipality is located in the Danube Forest region in the border triangle Germany - Austria - Czech Republic or Bavaria - Bohemia - Mühlviertel at the foot of the Dreisesselberg in the Lower Bavarian Forest. Neureichenau is located 15 km east of Waldkirchen, 20 km southeast of Freyung, 26 km from the border with the Czech Republic (near Philippsreut) and 7 km from the border with Austria.
